Everton reporter for The Liverpool Echo Joe Thomas has been left buzzing by the news that both Nathan Patterson and Ben Godfrey are back outside at Finch Farm.
The Lowdown: Bad injuries
Both Godfrey and Patterson have suffered from injuries this season, with the former limited to just two games in the division with an ankle problem sustained during international duty.
For Patterson, it seems to be a recurrence of the injury that ruled him out for a couple of months last season, which will certainly worry the Goodison Park outfit.
The Latest: Back in training
Images emerged on social media of both Godfrey and Patterson in training ahead of the Merseyside club’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend.
Thomas gave his instant reaction, claiming that it was ‘great to see’ them back doing individual training at Finch Farm, although they will not return to the squad for the trip to north London.

The Verdict: Big boost
After the injury worries that both players have suffered through, it is certainly a big boost to see them back running on the grass.
Frank Lampard noted in his pre-game press conference that Patterson is still two or three weeks away, and Godfrey is still unlikely to return until after the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, but having them back in training will accelerate their respective recoveries.
With the likes of Mason Holgate and Yerry Mina still out as well, Lampard will want as many of his defenders back as soon as possible, and it looks like he could call on Patterson relatively soon, with Godfrey hopefully not too far behind.
